Dental Crown and Bridge

Dental Crown and Bridge

Dental crowns and bridges are a solution to damaged or missing teeth. With the help of a restorative procedure, our excellent dentists use prosthetics to return your smile naturally. Traditionally, people used alloy or gold, or other forms of metal prosthetics for dental crowns. However, there are much affordable yet aesthetic options available at Greystanes Family Dental.

We offer porcelain tooth crowns that don’t just function naturally like your original teeth but also give you a natural look. They are a perfect solution for damaged or severely decayed teeth.

When are Dental Crowns Needed?

There are three different situations when you may need dental crowns:

1. Almost Invisible

When decay in a tooth is limited just to the visible portion above the gum line

1. Almost Invisible

It is hard to spot Clear aligners because they are clear. You can flash a beautiful smile and go out for any occasion without feeling shy about your treatment. Young adults, teens, and several adults don’t quite enjoy having their teeth wired.

2.Confident and Comfortable

If the decay is spread to the root

2.Confident and Comfortable

The Clear Aligners trays are clear and made from smooth SmartTrack plastic, much more comfortable than traditional braces. Unlike the traditional braces that are visible, Clear Aligners is almost invisible and goes unnoticed. You can be more confident while smiling and conversing with others with Clear Aligners.

3. No Food Restrictions and Ease of Cleaning

When a tooth is missing completely

3. No Food Restrictions and Ease of Cleaning

Traditional braces will hold you back from eating certain foods, incredibly sticky, rigid, or very chewy. They tend to get stuck on the wires of the braces. However, Clear Aligners trays can be easily removed to eat your favourite food. Brushing and flossing may be an issue when having traditional braces, but you can easily remove the trays and brush and floss your teeth when you have Clear Aligners clear aligners. You can also clean the trays easily.

How Does a Tooth Crown Function?

A dental crown is a manufactured tooth created to match the texture, colour, and size of your natural teeth. This cap is fixed permanently over your tooth to give it a fresh surface. Dental crowns may be placed over any tooth and are considered perfect solutions to large metal fillings that are old and a potential threat to the tooth, lest they crack. The metal fillings can be replaced with porcelain crowns providing them longevity and strength.

What are Dental Bridges?

A dental bridge is similar to a crown. However, it receives support from the teeth located on either side. A dental bridge is mostly used to treat multiple missing or severely damaged teeth with a single prosthetic. They are created with the same material and offer a natural look to the person undergoing this procedure.

What happens during a dental crown procedure?

After you have consulted with our caring dentists and agreed to fix your oral condition with dental crowns, then two visits would be required to complete the process at Greystanes Family Dental.

Cosmetic dentists at Greystanes Family Dental are not just skilled at their work but caring too. In your first visit, our dentists will seat you comfortably and numb the area to be treated. The dentist will then clean the outer surface of the tooth. They then proceed to remove the damaged, decayed tissue and debris present in the tooth. The tooth is then reshaped and resized in a way that it best supports the crown.

A mould or impression of the crown to be placed over the tooth taken which is sent to the laboratory to custom create a porcelain crown for you. The dental crown created will have the same thickness as the layer that was removed from your tooth.

The shade of the porcelain is carefully selected to match the colour of your natural teeth.

Our dentist will then place a temporary tooth crown made of plastic to provide protection to your reshaped and resized teeth. This plastic crown is attached with the help of temporary glue. The dentist working on you will then help you understand how to take care of this temporary crown.

On your second visit, after you are seated comfortably, our dentists will numb the area of treatment and remove the temporary plastic crown. Before placing the crown over the tooth, our dentist thoroughly examines it to ensure that it will function normally without any issues. A dental crown must not cause any discomfort when your upper and lower teeth come together to chew or bite something. If required, the dentist will shape it. Once you and the dentist are content with its authenticity, the dentist will proceed to cement it over your teeth permanently.

You will now have a new strong and natural-looking tooth. Make sure you brush and floss regularly to keep the bacteria from collecting beneath it. A porcelain crown is not just sturdy but offers an aesthetic look too. A dental crown will usually last ten years. There are people who have successfully kept it for up to thirty years, just by maintaining good oral health.
